Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve put together our most frequently asked questions.

Of course, if this doesn’t answer your question, please feel free to contact us.

What is the age limit for the licenses?

The minimum age to obtain a boat or PWC licence is 16 years.

Do you provide practical training sessions?

Once students have completed the online theory course, they may book practical on-water training sessions to cover the activities and manoeuvres required to pass the practical assessment.

Please note – these are optional sessions. Students will be given the opportunity on the assessment day to practice manoeuvres prior to the assessment.

What if I don’t pass the theory assessment?

To pass the theory assessment, students will need a score of 100%. If any questions are answered incorrectly, students will be given an opportunity to undergo additional training in these areas and attempt a second (final) time.

If the second attempt is unsuccessful, the student is deemed not yet competent and the trainer will discuss further training and assessment options.

Once I’ve passed, what’s the process?

Once students have successfully completed the theory and practical assessments, the instructor will provide a statement of competency and a licence application form. These forms are to be taken to and processed by QLD Transport to obtain the applicable licenses (RMDL, PWC or both as applicable).

For a current list of QLD Transport licence fees, visit the Maritime Safety Queensland website.

Do I need to renew my boat licence?

No, your boat and jetski licenses don’t require renewal. We do offer our practical training sessions if you would like a refresher, or to practice and improve your skills.

Do I need boating or jetski experience to pass the practical assessment?

No, but it does help. Your trainer will provide you with the training needed to pass the practical assessment on the day. All students should be able to pass, even without prior experience on the water.

Do we run courses on weekdays?

Yes for group bookings of 3 or more people, or a private course (which costs more).

Is the online course hard?

No, it’s just watching a video online which covers all the theory and a simple quiz at the end.
It takes approximately 3-4 hours, but it’s done in sections and it saves as you go.

Do I have to bring my own boat or jetski for the course?

No, we will provide a boat and a jetski for the course.

Do you offer a refund?

No, we provide a credit to use on a different day, providing you have cancelled 48 hours prior to your course date.

How long is the course on the day?

This depends on the student numbers. Usually, between 3 and 6 hours, but with larger groups, it may be longer.
