Jetski Licence
(Personal Watercraft Licence)
Book your Jetski theory course and assessment with us.
Boat & Jetski Licensing FNQ are an accredited training school with more than 25 years of experience between our trainers.
Here’s what you need to know.
- Assessment available in multiple locations (subject to demand)
- Practical assessment undertaken on our vessel
- Course includes online theory and practical assessment.
Please note:
You must have a RMDL (boat) licence before doing your jetski course with us.
We do not provide practical training on the day of assessment.
Step 1 - Online Course
Once you have booked into a course, your trainer will send you an email with a link to the online theory course.
The online course takes approximately 3-4 hours to complete and covers all the theory you will need for your training. At the end of the course, there is a quiz (practice test) for you to be able to test your knowledge prior to your assessment.
Step 2 - Theory Assessment
The theory assessment consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. To pass the theory assessment, Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) requires a score of 100% to pass. If a student answers any questions incorrectly, they will need to undergo additional training in these areas and will be given the opportunity to redo those questions.
If the student’s second attempt is unsuccessful, the student will be deemed “not yet competent” and will be required to undertake further training and resit assessment on another day.
Step 3 - Practical Assessment
To pass the practical assessment, each student will need to pass a formal practical assessment without assistance or guidance from the trainer.
We recommend practicing the following manoeuvres on a jetski with a licensed individual in your own time:
- Man overboard drill
- Safe approach to a floating object
- Port and starboard turns, both on and off the plane
- Figure 8 manoeuvre, both on and off the plane
- Berthing and unberthing
- General navigation and control of the vessel
- Operating at speeds of 6 knots or less
Students will be given the opportunity to practice each of the manoeuvres prior to your assessment.
For anyone wanting more practical training time, we recommend our Practical Training Course or Refresher Course, as there is limited time available prior to assessment.
The fee for re-sitting the practical test is $150.
If you are deemed not yet competent, your trainer will discuss options for additional training and assessment.
Step 4 - Getting your Licence
Upon successful completion of all assessments, your trainer will provide you with a certificate of competency.
This form is to be taken to QLD Transport and processed to obtain your applicable licences.
